Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd, more familiarly known as "K" LINE was founded in April 1919 and we are proud that it remains one of the largest ship operators in the world with headquarters based in Tokyo, Japan. Beginning with a humble deployment of 36 ships in 1948, "K" Line today deploys some 537 ships and remains one of the major ship operators in the world.
"K" Line (Singapore) Pte Ltd was established as a representative office on 27 December 1973 and became a full-fledged shipping agency in 1981; taking advantage of the excellent port facilities and efficiency of its workforce. We are proud to have expanded and grown from a mere handful of staff to the current staff strength of 250.
Over the years, "K" LINE (Singapore) Pte Ltd has been entrusted with additional duties over and above our primary functions as a shipping agency. Besides handling the trans-shipment of containers and marketing of container freight, we are entrusted with the responsibilities of managing the container inventory for Malaysia, Indonesia, as well as supporting West Asia's inventory requirements.
"K" Line (Singapore) Pte Ltd has been given the privilege to take on the role of hub for the West Asia region. Since its inception in 1988, our Regional Services Department has expanded its area of supervision covering the Indian Sub-continent, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and West Australia. It grew and soon became a Trade Management Office performing Principal's functions of liner management in terms of long term business planning, setting marketing policy and pricing as well as business development feasibility studies in order to further expand KLINE activities. We are glad to be able to handle all these additional responsibilities efficiently with the support of our in-house advanced Information Technology.
In August 2001, as a further step in the pursuit of globalisation of management, a new Company, "K" Line Pte Ltd was created from "K" LINE (Singapore) Pte Ltd, taking over principal business functions such as Trade Management Marketing and Operations of Container ships, car carriers and tankers. Following the transfer of these functions to "K" Line Pte Ltd, "K" Line (Singapore) Pte Ltd can now dedicate herself to General Agency Business for all shipping companies.
Whilst "K" Line (Singapore) Pte Ltd continues to dedicate itself to the general shipping agency business serving her customers in and around the region, it also sought to venture into innovative and sustaining IT solutions.
As a result of its various ventures and complementary to its status as a regional hub, 2 other new companies emerge.
1-Stop Docentre Sdn Bhd was set up in August 1998 as "K" Line Singapore Pte Ltd's exclusive data processing centre. Within a year of its inauguration and with a proven track record for efficiency and accuracy, 1-STOP Docentre was appointed to take over the inputting functions from "K" Line America. To date, it is the B/L inputting centre for "K" Line Japan and "K" Line Europe and has earned many accolades through the years for accuracy and efficiency. It strives to become the Global Documentation Centre for the entire KLINE Group.
"K" Line Singapore Pte Ltd's belief in computerization to improve efficiency also led to the formation of KSP InfoSystems Pte Ltd (KSPI) which was established in January 2001. It is the software and hardware solutions provider for the "K" Line Group in Asia. As a long term plan, KSPI set its sight to provide its expertise in shipping software applications to the Shipping community in Singapore and its Asian neighbours with the assistance of its subsidiary, "K" Line Information Technology (KITS) in Shanghai.
With the kind and generous support of all her many customers and through the "K" Line Group's continuous business efforts, we believe that we will become larger scale in the near future, maintaining and building our image and reputation as a reliable and dependable provider of ocean shipping and related transportation services.
